OUR JOURNEY
This story of regeneration here in Barbados is about healing the landscape, but it is also rooted in our culture and history. This “place” informed our beginning, drives how we engage, and will continue to inform our innovative solutions that are unique to Barbados but globally relevant.
WIRRED brings a holistic approach to the transformation of degraded lands through regenerative research, education, and design. We are committed to environmental stewardship, the economic wellbeing of all communities, and to increase biodiversity to support a climate-resilient planet.
We specialize in building partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders —including governmental agencies, universities, NGOs, business leaders, designers, artists, scientists, and the surrounding communities —with the goal of creating ecologically and economically vibrant anchors for community building and innovative scientific research.

FOCUS
AREAS
CLIMATE ADAPTION &
RESILIENCE
Global climate change is the defining issue of our time. As a small island developing state(SIDS), Barbados is particularly vulnerable and that’s why building climate resilient communities is critical to our mission.
MARINE &
TERRESTRIAL BIODIVERSITY
Barbados is home to some of the world’s most diverse and productive land and marine ecosystems which act as food sources and economic opportunities for livelihood. These delicately balanced habitats are increasingly at risk due to climate change. Our work combats biodiversity loss by restoring and creating healthy environments through regenerative practices.
OCEANS, SOILS &
FRESHWATER SYSTEMS
Our oceans, soils, and freshwater systems are intimately linked. Maintaining a dynamic and rich ecological balance between them supports a thriving world. Our work prioritizes a commitment to the mindful management of natural resources to ensure an abundant future.
REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE &
FOOD SECURITY
Regenerative agriculture holds the possibility for equity, inclusion and sustainability. This paradigm supports an economy that functions to revitalize our soil and communities, and lies at the core of a future free from world hunger and poverty.
RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY & DISTRIBUTION
Renewable energy is the cornerstone of a climate resilient world. Our belief is that cutting edge technologies support the decentralized development of clean energy. We’re dedicated to exploring new ways in which carbon neutral and carbon negative energy solutions can responsibly support the growth of local and global rural economies.
YOUTH &
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders. By connecting youth to our regenerative agriculture practices they reconnect with local, indigenous ways of knowing that provide for deeper understanding of themselves and the world. Through innovative research and training programs we’re empowering youth with new ways of thinking and economic opportunity while creating more climate resilient environments.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT &
LIVELIHOOD GENERATION
Local community engagement is critical to our long-term relevance in Barbados and beyond. At the core of community outreach is authentic connection— to people, to the land, and to our collective histories. Our inclusive vision holds space for gender equitable economic growth centered in a circular economy of vibrant, thriving communities here in Barbados and across the globe.
LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL
ECO-AGROTOURISM
Walker’s Reserve, WIRRED’s land-based living laboratory, is a global demonstration site that recognizes and harnesses the transformative benefits of regenerative agriculture. Walker’s reserve is both a local hotspot and international destination that is developing into an ideal model for eco-agrotourism.
HUMAN HEALTH & WELL-BEING
Truly regenerative landscapes are transformative and nourishing to both people and the planet. By holding space for community, WIRRED encourages collective healing, growth and prosperity.
LAND REGENERATION
Regenerative practices enhance the environment, community and individuals by building capacity and capability; and by encouraging interconnectedness and the creation of symbiotic relationships. At WIRRED we’re building an innovative model for regeneration that can be replicated and scaled to take landscapes from degradative to regenerative.
